Remember The Very Hungry Caterpillar? Author/Illustrator Eric Carle now turns his wonderful creations into photo books. You can create an original Eric Carle photo book at Kodak Gallery that contains all your own photos. Each page features Carle’s wonderful, distinctive illustrations.

Right now the only size is 10.25” x 9” in hardcover but you can choose from three different inside page designs: The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Brown Bear, or The Very Series (bugs, spiders and flies). The base price for 20 pages is $34.49.

Here are some ideas for using Eric Carle inspired photo books:
For a child’s end of year school album
For a teacher gift
For a story written with your child as the hero or main character
As an ABC book using the Eric Carle critters as examples or inspiration
Before you start, there’s a couple of things I noticed about creating Eric Carle photo books in Kodak Gallery.
Click the Preview design link to see what the finished or partially finished book will look like. You can’t see the Eric Carle pages in the Edit view as you build the book, so you have to keep using the Preview feature.
Unfortunately, you can’t specify which Eric Carle background you want for each page. The online tool makes that choice for you. However, by changing the page layout, (as in number of photos per page, etc.) you will get different backgrounds. Choose different page layouts by click the Choose page layout drop down list.
You can’t view the cover design with your photo in the cutout. However, on the inside cover page, the online tool provides an outline of the cutout window so you can position your photo to the left or right, or zoom in or out as necessary to make it fit just right.
Oh, and one last thing. If you really love Eric Carle, check out these wonderful photo cards, birth announcements and invitations. I just love anything starring The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
